Jewels of Spring

What's up? Since winter has chosen to linger a few more weeks, I decided to embark on a journey to Lincoln Park, a neighborhood in Chicago near the lakefront of Lake Michigan and take a gander at the beautiful Jewels of Spring flower show currently in residence. The hot, humid atmosphere is the perfect foil to the endless gray days with little sun and wind gusts that blow right through you but first rattling one's bones just to make sure you know winter is still here.
The Lincoln Park Conservatory is a Victorian-era conservatory of about three acres that highlights tropical palms, ferns, orchids, and rotating floral displays. Designed by architects Joseph Lyman Silsbee and M.E. Bell and built during 1890-1895, the conservatory was often described as "a paradise under glass" because of its lush tropical interior. Although a little worn and frayed at the edges today, the conservatory still is a big draw with Chicagoans and visitors from out of town and I can personally vouch it has an intrinsic charm that still captivates. Until spring has sprung and outdoor photography is worthwhile here in the Midwest, I leave you with photos of my visit to this Chicago grand lady.
